Career you would like to pursue in the sport industry (40 points) a. What is the goal position you would like to be in someday if you were to pursue a career in the sport industry? Use some of the examples and websites listed above as a resource to get you started. b. Now choose a segment of the sport industry for which you would be interested in working: High School, Collegiate, Professional, Recreational/Fitness, Sporting Goods, Technology, Olympic Sport, etc. and answer the following questions: i. Brief background – discuss the present and future state of the field in which you would like to work in the sport industry (e.g. healthcare, marketing, fitness, media, hospitality, etc.). ii. Why are you interested in working within this type of position in this specific sector of the sport industry? iii. What specific skills do you think you possess now that may make you a good future fit in this sector of the sport industry?
Answer the following questions: i. What are some of the most important things you are looking for in a career besides salary? (e.g. location, hours, job security, job satisfaction, amount of travel required, etc.). ii. Write down your 30-second to 1-minute “elevator speech” (pg. 547). Think of this as your career objective for your résumé. iii. Give a brief overview and plan as to how you will position yourself to obtain future employment in this type of position (e.g. networking, internships, volunteer experience, informational interviews, etc.). Use chapter 20 in the textbook as a guideline. Be as specific as possible for your particular position. b. Cut and paste the description of a current job opening that you would be interested pursuing once you meet the qualifications. Use the websites listed above to get you started. c. Current copy of your résumé (no more than one page)
Must be submitted in the Canvas Dropbox. Only the following file extension types are acceptable for submission: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx
Assignments should be in 12-point standard font (e.g. Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri, Cambria) with no more than 1-inch margins. This is not a formal paper so it can be either single or double-spaced.
