The commentary must focus on a current event (2016 to present) relevant to marine pollution, as reported in local, national, or international media (preferably newspapers or reputable Internet sources). DO NOT write a commentary on any peer-reviewed scientific journal article.
The following elements must be included in the commentary:
1) A brief summary (no more than 1/2 of a page) of the pollution issue being reported on;
2) A commentary on the science behind the issue, including your science-based opinion on the factual correctness of the media report;
3) An assessment of the short- and long-term damage to the environment (if appropriate);
4) Suggestions for alternative solutions and/or preventative measures to remediate or resolve the issue and/or suggestions for further studies or field monitoring (if appropriate).

A minimum of TWO references to science-based journal articles, books, or other references is required.
6) A copy of the media report. NOTE: Please do not simply provide a link to the report, if an online article. Download the report as a PDF and include in your submission.
Commentaries must be formatted in the following manner:
length: minimum of two to a maximum of three pages (excluding List of References and copy of media report)
spacing: single-spaced
font size: 12 pt
