Comparison of 1918 Spanish Flu and Coronavirus

Part 5: US History
The recently released National Standards for United States History published by the National Center for History Schools does not include any mention of the 1918 flu epidemic.  Why do you think Americans have not retained this incident in their collective memory? What do you think the impact of it was on those who lived through it? How much do you think the euphoria surrounding the Armistice(1918) overshadowed the experience of the epidemic? What can we learn from studying it? Is it a vital incident to study? Why or why not?

Part 6: Home Remedies
According to the film, (PBS Influenza 1918)
https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/american experience/films/influenza/ many people used home remedies to combat the flu. Also during the coronavirus people are using home remedies.  Discuss the home remedies used for both viruses.  Choose different types of nontraditional medicine to research, including folk remedies, acupuncture, homeopathic remedies, biofeedback, or herbal remedies.  Look at the history of the practice, its strengths and weaknesses, and evidence of effectiveness.  Look for parallels to traditional medicine (for example, willow bark and aspiring). Discuss what you think should be the role of alternative medicine in treating illness, and if you use alternative medicine.  If not, would you consider it and under what circumstances.
