University Hospital
The mission statement for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is closely related to its vision statement and lays out clearly what the facility is about. It reads in part we are dedicated to discoveries that advance science, to outstanding patient care throughout the world, and to the education of physicians and scientists (Penn Medicine). University Hospital is known throughout the world as a leader in patient care, provider education, and cutting-edge research and has achieved that distinction through its vision of transformational leadership as well as teaching and research excellence. This is clearly communicated through the mission and vision statements.
Hospital Healthcare System
Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is one the leading medical facilities in central Pennsylvania. It is a teaching hospital and offers Level 1 Trauma Center as well as a pediatric hospital along with many other specialty services. The Geisinger Health System mission statement details the goal to enhance the quality of life through an integrated health service organization (Geisinger). Along with the core values of the organization: Kindness, Excellence, Learning, Safety, and Innovation this vision has guided GMC over the past 100 years in evolving and expanding to meet the medical needs of the region as well as developing innovative programs that have impacted healthcare nationwide.
Not-For-Profit Community Hospital
Evangelical Community Hospital (ECH) is a smaller hospital in central Pennsylvania that is more intensely focused on the needs of the local community. The ECH mission statement details the goal to provide exceptional healthcare, accessible to all, in the safest and most compassionate atmosphere possible (Evangelical). The vision to be the healthcare provider of choice for the community is supported by the core values. All of these are carefully crafted into a cohesive message that is well communicated.
Ambulatory Care Center
Med Express Urgent Care Center is a local ambulatory care center with a clearly stated mission. Their mission statement, vision, and values are summed up in one short paragraph that reads in part our mission is to help people live healthier lives and to help the health system work better (MedExpress).
Skilled Nursing Facility
Skilled nursing facilities often serve a very specific clientele such as elderly or patients with chronic illnesses, and many times the patients which they serve remain in the facilities on a more long-term basis. Consulate Health Care is one such organization and its mission and values statement expresses the importance of not only their mission but also the core values. These care providers often form deep bonds with their patients due to spending a longer term of care with the patients.
Leaders in healthcare organizations are responsible for establishing the mission and vision of the organizations that they lead. Clearly stated mission and vision as well as core values are important in establishing the culture of an organization and will help to drive a carefully crafted marketing program (Cellucci et al., 2014). Visionary leadership is a concept that the Bible teaches. Guidance for leaders in Ephesians 1:17 states: I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Glorious Father, would give you a spirit of wisdom, and revelation in the knowledge of Him (HCSB)

Proverbs 16:7 (New King James Bible, 1982), When a mans ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peach with him. Mission and vision statements set the tone or the personality of an organization. When leadership sets the tone within the mission, vision statements and values as wholesome place and with ethical decision making and Christian worldview, they can only benefit the organization and really bring out people to embrace the organization despite any negative thoughts or ideas they may have.
