Directions: Our second discussion board assignment is fairly straight forward, I think. I want you to participate in the discussion defining literature. While one way of approaching this is to look at a dictionary definition, I want you to avoid this for the most part. Instead, I want you to define literature in your own words. In keeping with the idea that this is a discussion board, please engage other students in class (in a positive manner). The idea behind discussion after all is not simply to air ideas, but also to discover whether the ideas have merit (or not) and to figure out how to refine them in order to improve the ideas. So, a portion of your grade for this part of the assignment involves your responses (keep them polite) to the posts of others.

Grading: To receive a 100 on this assignment, you need to post your own definition of literature here and you need to respond to at least two other student posts. I am hoping that these responses will move the discussion forward rather than restating what others have said. Thus, simple “I agree with so and so” posts will only receive partial credit. Editing your responses prior to posting is also helpful (to your grade). Remember, I’m a big fan of students that consider the prompt carefully, compose their work on a word processor, and then post to the discussion board.
