Hello, my name is Skylar. My major is Psychology, and my academic plan is to become a neuroscientist and study traumatic brain injuries in children. I have a dog named Charlotte and my interests include reading, crocheting, and science. I chose critical thinking as a class because I was enamored with my intro to philosophy course and wanted to continue that learning path. My hopes for this class are to gain a better understanding of objective analysis and the five critical thinking skills.

Creating a space that is equal and beneficial for all is most important. The interactions I have with my peers should be purely academic. Constructive criticism and encouragement should be part of any discussion as they can encourage better understanding for the future. In all aspects of life, we should continue an inclination to learn from other people and their experiences. This is only executed by remaining open to thoughts and ideas that are not your own. If we are here to learn, then there should be a consensus that an argument that is not based in fact or is entirely emotional is merely purposeless. Having a logical discussion about someone else’s thoughts with the purpose of gaining knowledge and spreading knowledge is productive and respectful to your peers. To assess one’s ideas is to be critical but not hurtful and to understand their position, not obliterate it. I do not have any concerns about this course, only hopeful anticipation.

Hello, my name is Jacqueline.  I am a single mother of 2 in school for the first time.  I have chosen to become an occupational therapy aide. For the last 5 years I have worked in special education and could not be happier.  I also work as an RBT. This college offers the program I am needing in order to reach my goal. Critical thinking is one of my pre-requisites and I am honestly excited to take this course.  I look forward to learning more on different ways of thinking so that I can better understand or relate to others.  Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me.

I am thrilled to get to know my peers and it is important to me to not feel criticized in this learning space.  I would love to interact with my classmates in this online course with a positive and motivating approach.  Being open minded and to avoid being judgmental. In respect to my peers and other perspectives as well as my own, I would like to not react out of emotion or what off what we may have known to be the way.  I believe that while we work together to be respectful to one another that it would be helpful if we try to reply in place of responding. My concern for this course is keeping on task and being aware of all assignments and due dates.  I know this will all come with more time being enrolled as a college student.  I am hopeful and willing to try.
