Discussion 2: Finding a Topic

 

1. According to your text, “self analysis is a prerequisite” in selecting a speech topic. Conduct a self analysis here. In the first part, tell us about some of your hobbies and interests. Next, let us know what you have done (professionally and academically). And lastly, share with us some things you would like to learn more about.

2. Watch the Toastmaster’s video – “Finding Speech Topics” and go into detail about how this applies to some of what you read in this chapter about self-analysis, what you shared above, and how this may help you in your future speeches.

  • Your reply to the original topic questions must be a minimum of 300 words.
  • You must reply to at least two classmates postings with a minimum of 50 words each.
  • Respond with a thought-provoking comment on the ideas and research presented.
  • Do not simply comment on grammar and rhetoric.
  • In order to receive full credit your reply to the original question and your peer comments must be on two separate days. (There is a 20% penalty for posting responses on the same day.)
  • You must cite with either page numbers or sections from the text next to your writing as well as the video to support your opinions or you will not receive a grade.
