Part1

Write a 175- to 265-word response to the following questions:

  • How has evidence-based research influenced health care research? Why is it important in the health care industry?

Part2

Respond to 2 classmates posts

Response1:

Evidence based research has helped influence healthcare by providing proof and bringing forward evidence of violating the right to know for voluntary research participants. Take the Tuskegee Syphilis study, the researchers never informed their participants that there was a cure for syphilis, they had other physicians and government agency involved with not informing these men. These men whom most of them died due to syphilis were basically tortured for over 30 years. the researchers also affected these men’s families, how? Since the men were not treated with medication they then passed the VD onto their partners, their partners then passed it onto their children through childbirth. This was done knowingly by the physicians, government and researchers involved. According to Heintzelman, C. (2003):

National Research Act, passed in 1974, mandated that all federally funded proposed research with human subjects be approved by an institutional review board (IRB). By 1992, final payments of approximately $40,000 were made to survivors under an agreement settling the class action lawsuit brought on behalf of the Tuskegee Study subjects. President Clinton publicly apologized on behalf of the federal government to the handful of study survivors in April 1997.

Response 2:

EBP is important because it aims to provide the most effective care that is available, with the aim of improving patient outcomes. Patients expect to receive the most effective care based on the best available evidence. EBP promotes an attitude of inquiry in health professionals and starts us thinking about: Why am I doing this in this way? Is there evidence that can guide me to do this in a more effective way? As health professionals, part of providing a professional service is ensuring that our practice is informed by the best available evidence. EBP also plays a role in ensuring that finite health resources are used wisely and that relevant evidence is considered when decisions are made about funding health services. When doing research there are important steps that at times changes ways of the health care system. Evidence base research also helps health care staff give better patient care which is very important. Working in the medical field for over 13 years and I must say patient care is number 1 and researching ranks number 1 as well.
