The topic I chose was, “Why Can’t This Soap Dispenser Identify Dark Skin?” The subject is how sensors within things like soap dispensers, paper towel rollers, etc. can’t see a person’s light reflective characteristics because their darker skin absorbs more light than a fairer person. I do not believe there are any ethics violations presented in this article. However, I got the impression that the author of this article is trying to grasp straws and loosely imply that this is somehow a racist issue or can be viewed as such. This is in my opinion a technology oversight when companies are developing products.
