Statement 2: The role of the police officer is to both serve the public and aid in the minimization of criminal activities. Malmin (2012) notes that the police continuously expose themselves to dangerous situations while managing to show compassion, kindness and courtesy. However, the necessary respect for citizens associated with the role also comes with the capacity to take the life of another individual in stressful conditions in a legally acceptable manner.
