Would You Rather Have Arrived as an Immigrant in New England or the Chesapeake in the 1600s?
Explain why you would rather have settled in either New England or the Chesapeake in the seventeenth century (1600s). Be really to-the-point, providing concrete reasons that demonstrate your understanding of these two most populous and important regions, as described in Chapter 3. Make a series of comparisons between the two areas, demonstrating why you decided one was a more promising place to settle than the other. Topics covered might include climate, security, land and wages, and political and religious tolerance. Be sure you know which colonies constitute each regions; for example, Virginia is the dominant colony of the Chesapeake and Massachusetts is the most important one in New England.
