Impacts Social Media Can Have on Society
There has always been a debate on whether social media has had a more positive vs. negative impact on society. On one hand, social media platforms have been applauded for things such as providing a way for connecting and re-connecting with friends and family, accessing breaking news, getting opinions of others, exploring common topics of interest, etc. On the other hand, social media has been cited as being a major contributor in things that cause individual or collective harm such as spreading of disinformation, decline of mental health, fostering addictive behaviors, acts of bullying, etc.
Share with the class your thoughts about the impact of social media on our society and where it should head in the future.

When I am on social media its usually just to post business related items or to post a happy birthday to a loved one, but I never thought I would see some of the things that go on watching social media.
I am not one to post my business, but some people post every time they eat and go to the rest room. I see a lot of people just striving for attention and sometimes it is very sad. Others are there for the comments and some like to laugh at the jokes or mishaps others have, while some want to increase their likes.
You have those that are actually hurting, and this is where I feel (instead of Zuckerburg letting all his employees go) Facebook had the upper hand to monitor these post to help those contemplating suicide to calling out for help, rather than letting people just laugh and humiliate those that may truly be in need of some assistance or counseling. But instead, Facebook are harassing bag and clothing sellers and shutting down accounts because some one reported them without even investigating.
There are kids even doing these dangerous challenges that children have actually died from doing. I just saw the other day, school aged kids holding on to an 18-wheeler going down the highway rolling behind and under the trailer by the tires. All it would take is one crack, hump, bump and a lot of lives could be loss for kids acting foolishly.
Social media can be a dangerous place to note your vulnerabilities on. People can play other people and manipulate others as well. There are the scammers in the mist also, which make it hard for someone to actually help out someone in need.
I also feel Facebook and some of the other social media sites need to quit exploiting children dancing vulgar as it is inappropriate. They never know what pedophile is watching of following someone’s every move.
These are some of the deep issues I feel are going on in social media. A lot of it need to be put to an end. It is really affecting our next generation of kids.

Social media is one of the most important things for people now a days. Social media have both positive and negative impact in our society. People from kid to old age group they are active in social media. I have 22-month-old toddler boy, he is learning ABC’s, number, colors, and many more from YouTube. Old days people used to post the letter to communicate from one place to other, now social media is a great way to connect with people who you may not see all the time. we don’t need calling card to call from one country to another and, we don’t need to worry for our minutes. Because now days we have several apps like messenger, viber, and facetime etc makes people easy to connect with people. Because of social media we don’t have to check newspaper or turn on the TV to watch the news. Social media allows businesses to grow and post ads that are free or paid ads to help your revenue. Individuals also doing different kind of businesses from home on TikTok. Social media is easy and convenient.
In other hand, social media also have negative impact on our society. Like some time, they provide the fake news which might cause people death. Before social media, people used to spend time with family and friends. Kids use to pay together but now a days they are busy with their gadget. Most of the kid have their own smart phone or iPad. People are addicted to social media, it reduced face to face communication. People also create fake social media account to spread spam or misinformation or harass and bully another user. Research also found that too much usage of social media led to social anxiety and depression. To reduce the risk of social media negative impact on our society, government need to educate students about negative issue. If the use of social media is not monitored, it can lead to serious consequences.
