After reviewing the GCU Library tutorial, all five criteria will help me validate a website’s usefulness. I feel the three most helpful in my eyes are authority, accuracy, and currency. I feel that these three elements are the majority of the information I would need to evaluate the website. Authority would be the website’s author or creator of the website. Accuracy is the knowledge that the website is the factors accurate and cited or a theory. Currency is the information on the website current or is it from prior news not relevant to the topic. Each of these will give the researcher knowledge if the website can be trusted and whether the information is accurate and relevant to the topic.

I think all five elements for evaluation are important, but if we just choose three, I would go with accuracy, coverage, and authority. Accuracy first because when evaluating a site, we need to discard or not use the sites with blatant lies. Even if I only know about one lie or falsehood, I should already not trust the sight and their fact-checking skills. A website could be riddled with misinformation, so I need to check the citations. The second is coverage; if the site covers my topic at surface level but doesn’t go in-depth with any detail, it might not be the best site to use. Just like checking for accuracy when assuring proper coverage, I need to check the citation usage and citation links to be sure that everything used is adequately supported. Also, under coverage, I need to ensure the site looks scholarly or at least presentable because my purpose is finding information to use in an academic paper. Authority is third because it further supports the evaluation of accuracy and coverage. After finding the author, a quick google search helps verify the validity of their qualifications.

While still important, I didn’t use currency because accurate, credible sources can be used indefinitely. We still quote the great minds of history. I didn’t use objectivity because the website’s arguments could be biased with supported true facts. An example of a good bias would be mothers against drunk driving (MADD). They are biased in that it was started because mothers lost their children in car crashes due to other people driving drunk, but the fact is that drinking alcohol impairs the driver.

Accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, and coverage are the five main things one should look for when selecting a website.

The criteria is all important for writing. Accuracy, Objectivity and authority are the most important me.

Accuracy is the talking about the individual who wrote the information and why the information was put out.

Objectivity is why the information is being published and who the information is published for.

Authority is who published the document and where the document was published .

Understanding this criteria will help me to improve as a student and during my continued career and home life

After reviewing the above information over the proper criteria to use when evaluating websites, it has come to my attention that there are five main guidelines to go by. The five guidelines are authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, and coverage. In my opinion of the five guidelines, the three that are most important are authority, objectivity, and accuracy. Authority or author is important due to is there an author or copyright information listed on the website to back up any information that is being listed. Objectivity or unbiased is needed in order for a website to be more about valid information than someone’s opinion. The accuracy or current, in my opinion. is the most important of these three because the information that is being provided on any website needs to be current instead of using outdated information. The remaining two guidelines currency and coverage are important as well. However, currency can fit into the same category as accuracy and there will be coverage with authority, objectivity, and accuracy.
