The final assignment for this course is an argumentative research paper, like what is described in the Writing Center’s resource, Argumentative Writing Links to an external site.https://writingcenter.uagc.edu/argumentative-writing. The purpose of the final paper on environmental degradation and justice is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by proposing a solution to one of the many areas of environmental injustice discussed in the previous weeks, such as locating hazardous waste industries in poorer communities, reduced life expectancies in inner city communities, unsafe housing predominantly impacting minorities, etc. Choose an environmental health, human health, or economic development injustice that
- has been addressed in some form by policy and/or regulatory strategies, and
- has been the subject of a current emergency management measure or measures.
After you select your injustice, compose a paper that covers the following:
- Compose a thesis statement Links to an external site.https://writingcenter.uagc.edu/writing-a-thesis that addresses your chosen injustice.
- Examine the history of your chosen injustice. Be sure to include the following:
- Identify the affected geographic area (e.g., local, national, or international).
- Describe the population or populations affected, including the culture and or race.
- Analyze the health issues experienced by the population or populations affected.
- Assess the existing policy or regulatory strategies and emergency management measure or measures.
- Explain why these strategies or measures partially resolved or did not resolve the health inequity.
- Propose a solution to your selected environmental health, human health, or economic development injustice.
- Justify your solution with supporting evidence by highlighting expected costs and resources needed. Be mindful of the estimated costs, as you likely will need to highlight an existing program whose funding would decrease to support yours.
- Contrast your proposed solution with expected counterarguments or views, including limitations, to your solution.
- Close with a defense of your proposed solution against the above counterarguments that is backed by supporting evidence.
- Conclude your paper with a restatement of your thesis and solution.
