This week we learned about the different types of physical activity based on intensity and the benefits of cardiovascular fitness on the body.

For your Unit 2 Complete assignment, write a narrative essay (minimum of 1000 words) in which you address and discuss the questions and statements listed below.  Use at least three scholarly sources and remember to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the READ and ATTEND sections in your essay.  Please make sure to cite your sources in APA format. 

  • It is important to not only develop an active lifestyle but also to minimize time spent being inactive or sedentary.  A specific Healthy People 2020 goal focuses on reducing the percentage of people who watch more than 2 hours of TV per day.  Describe an action plan that you can take to help you reduce the amount of time you spend being sedentary.
  • Please use the website (then click on Data and Statistics; then clock on Data and Trends and Map Database; then you can click on your state and find all the information you need) to review physical activity trends in states across the United States and describe how the patterns or trends look in your state compared to others.  Also explain the implications of those findings.
  • The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) created U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines that recommend for adults to get a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week (e.g., 30 minutes 5 days per week) or to perform 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week.  Please explain whether you believe 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity is more realistic for someone and describe why.
  • Complete Lab 7A by monitoring your physical activity over a weeks time and describe your results. Explain if you feel as if you will utilize moderate physical activity as your lifetime physical activity plan now or in the future.  Also, please explain if you believe that setting goals and keeping track of your physical activity made you more aware of your daily physical activity patterns.
