ESSAY 1

You will write an approximately 1,250-word paper on what this industry (Hospitality, Tourism, Events) was like in 1950 in the United States. This means you will need to conduct research. Your research paper will include these sections as headers: Introduction or Abstract, Primary Organizations, Professional Opportunities, and Conclusion. The conclusion should include how the past informed modern operations.

Introduction or Abstract: You will begin the paper with either an Introduction or an Abstract. You can choose which you decide to use. This article best explains the difference between an Introduction and Abstract:

Primary Organizations: What were the primary organizations dominating this industry in 1950? For example, the most popular airlines in 1950 do not exist today. This is the same for Food & Beverages companies (i.e. franchising and chains did not dominate the market in 1950 but they do today), lodging, and other emphasis areas of hospitality and tourism. You should assess the primary organizations and identify how they exist today (e.g. did they merge or get purchased by an existing company?).

Professional Opportunities: Hospitality jobs have changed a lot in recent decades. We should be able to project the future of the industry when we know how the jobs existed in the past and how they exist today. This is the reasons we write this section. This section is likely best completed in an Excel chart.

Conclusion: In this section you should focus on depicting how the past informs the present and potentially the future.

ESSAY 2

You will choose a large publicly-traded company (e.g. airline, lodging, restaurant, cruiseline) you are interested in learning about. You will use these headers: Introduction or Abstract, Philosophy, Locations. Loyalty Program, and Conclusion. I recommend including pictures and color in your submission. Your submission should be an approximately 1,250-word paper. These are the headers you will use with a description of what is expected in each section:

Introduction or Abstract: You will begin the paper with either an Introduction or an Abstract. You can choose which you decide to use. This article best explains the difference between an Introduction and Abstract:

Philosophy: You will identify the Mission, Vision, and general Philosophy of the organization. You will cite these properly. You will explain in your own words how these drive the operations of this organization.

Locations:  This section includes a bullet-pointed listing of their flagship locations or hubs with a short amount of additional information. For example, if you are conducting an assessment of an airline then their hubs are integral to their operations. If you are assessing a lodging company then identifying the most important properties to their brand is integral.

Loyalty Program: You will provide in bullet points a general assessment of the organization’s loyalty program. Cite this properly. Then, assess in your own words the shortcomings and successes of this program.

Conclusion: In this section you should focus on depicting how the past informs the present and potentially the future for the organization.
