1. Discuss several different ways in which “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” represent America and address versions of the American dream.

Discuss how elements of Irony, Parody, Gothic and Symbolism are incorporated in “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Do not forget to write about Gothic, including supernatural, mystery, horror, and symbolism, on the one hand, and ironical usage of those in the stories we discussed, on the other.
