This experiential learning trip to Washington, DC, will provide a unique opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s impact, engage in service activities, and explore the intersections of history, politics, and social justice during both MLK Day of Service and Inauguration Day. (Needs to be personal)

  1. How has Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work influenced your understanding of social justice and civil rights? Please provide examples of how his values have shaped your perspective on equity, activism, or community service.

Dr. King’s non-violent protests and showing my community the power of our voices. MY great-great grandma experienced and lived through segregation & Jim Crow laws, which led her to participate as an active member of Oakland’s Very own black panther party.

Dr. Kings believed in community action and the importance of coming together

Dr. King’s moral impact through his ” I Have a Dream” speech and Letter from Birmingham, Alabama gave all people a sense of hope and prosperity ,talk how his dream, gave me the opportunity as a little black to be educated and valued as a human being. His values of community service helped shape my own acts of service.

2.What does participating in MLK Day of Service and witnessing Inauguration Day mean to you? Reflect on how these events can deepen your understanding of civic responsibility and inspire you to contribute to positive social change.
