Examining the essay

1.After reading Carson’s essay once through, go back and examine it more closely looking specifically at how she uses comparisons and contrasts to explain her views. Does she use specific words, terms, or phrases to show differences or similarities?  Is there an order to her ideas that signals a comparison or a contrast to the reader? Then write a paragraph of 7 to 10 sentences explaining how Carson incorporates comparison and contrast into her essay. Give examples. Follow MLA style format.

2.choose either two people you know well who are part of your story OR two people who are well known in South Florida (current or historical) who have made a mark on the history or culture of South Florida. How are their personalities, characteristics, or behaviors alike?  Write a paragraph of 7 to 10 sentences describing three ways they are similar, the same. Follow MLA style format.

3.Using the same two people you wrote about in M2:D2, now write a paragraph of 7 to 10 sentences describing three ways they are different. Explain how their personalities, characteristics, or behaviors contrast from each other. Follow MLA style format.
