Field Experience C: Instructional Planning

Reflection is at the heart of being an effective teacher. A successful teacher can critically evaluate his or her instructional strategies and assess what was successful and what could be improved. By striving for continuous improvement, you will improve student outcomes and develop your personal professional practices.

At your mentor teachers discretion, implement one or more of the instructional strategies you created in the Topic 4 field experience to develop math vocabulary and enhance the mentors lesson. You should plan to work with the whole class or a small group.

Your strategies should include the following:

Provide opportunities for students to justify and explain their mathematical thinking

Include one or more interpersonal communication activities, such as pairs or small groups

Involve writing and using the math vocabulary being taught

Write a 250-500 word reflection on your observations, collaborative discussion, and implemented strategies. Discuss how your activities fostered problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. What aspects of your delivery were successful? Why do you believe this to be true? What could you do differently in the future?
