Keep a food journal detailing your meals for 4 days (3
weekdays, 1 weekend day) all from one week. Your meals for each day should include ALL the food you ate, including: breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks and beverages.
Describe the process of researching your food.
What were the sources you used to obtain production and distribution information
(speaking with store workers/ farmers, calling, websites)?
Did you run into any problems while researching? What were your solutions?
From this assignment, what will you keep in mind when you buy your next
grocery items from the store/supermarket/farmers market?
Describe the advertisements that promote the consumption of the food you ate.
Influence to purchase a product may stem from many factors.
Whether youve seen an advertisement for a specific product (Travis Scott Happy
Meal at McDonalds) verses for a general product (Got Milk campaign), please
note if the food you eat has any advertisements that you are aware of.
How are these foods advertised? What does the advertisement look like? Who is
the advertisement targeting? Note the size, color, health claims (ex. reduce the
risk of heart disease), etc.
Are the foods being advertised healthy according to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines/
My Plate? What is the impact of this food on the diet? (Hint: look at added sugar,
sodium, type of fat, suspicious/miscellaneous additives etc.)
