You are the HR Manager for a local organization. You have received an email from one of your managers, Rick Jones, stating he would like to start the process of termination for one of his employees, Cindy Collins. Rick has come to discuss this particular employee in the past, so it is of no surprise that the manager is wanting to move forward with termination of employment. You also know Cindy’s performance has not been stellar. She has been consistently late to work over the past couple of months, has missed several project deadlines, and several employees have come to Rick and complained that Cindy has been delegating most of her work to other employees and not getting her job done. You set up a meeting time with Mr. Jones for the next morning at 9:00am to discuss the situation further.
1. Review the information in Chapter 11 in regard to progressive discipline. Put yourself in Rick’s shoes. 2. As the HR Manager, how would you prepare for the meeting? What information would you want to review prior to the meeting with Rick? Would there be anyone else you would contact prior to the meeting that would need to be apprised of the situation? What laws and regulations will you need to keep in mind in your assessment of the situation?
