  • For this assignment, you will show your understanding of validity and reliability in the assessment of student learning by creating an infographic. Then, you will apply your understanding of these terms to a test item you will write based on the standard you unpacked for the module 1 lab (listed below). The directions to complete the two-part assignment are below.

Part 1: Create a 1-page infographic to describe validity and reliability in the assessment of student learning. If you're not sure what an infographic is, click on the link below and watch the video.

Include the following:

  • Validity
    • A one sentence definition of validity in your own words
    • A brief description of a factor that raises validity on tests and why you believe this factor is effective in your own words
    • Why is validity important to the assessment of student learning?
  • Reliability
    • A one sentence definition of reliability in your own words
    • A brief description of an effective way to estimate the reliability of tests and why you believe this way is effective in your own words
    • Why is reliability important to the assessment of student learning?
  • What is the relationship between validity and reliability?
  • List at least three ways to increase validity and/or reliability on classroom assessments
  1. Copy and paste the standard you analyzed for the module 1 lab.
  2. Based on the standard you analyzed in module 1, write one valid and reliable question that you would use to assess student learning.
  3. In a paragraph, do the following: 1) explain why this question would be a valid question based upon your understanding of validity and ways to raise validity; 2) explain what you could do to ensure reliability based upon your understanding of reliability and ways to estimate reliability.
  4. List the references you used to complete Part 1 of the lab in APA style. (Please see the OWL at Purdue for guidance on formatting your references in Part 2 of the assignment.)
