For this DB assignment, you’ll be able to choose between two assignment prompts. You only need to complete ONE of the two options.

OPTION 1

Multiple evidence-based programs to prevent adolescent pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted infections are presented in Chapter 9. Select ONE of these programs. Once you’ve selected your program, discuss the following:

Provide background on the program (e.g., name, when & where it was created, who developed it)Describe the program. What does it entail? What type of program is it? What setting is it implemented in?What evidence is there that this program is effective? How has it been successful? And finally, share your thoughts on the program. What do you think of the program? What do you think this program does well? What are some gaps you see in the program? What are some ways the program can be improved?

Once you’ve completed your post, respond to at least TWO of your peers. Remember that your response should be substantive and should advance the conversation.

OPTION 2

The World Health Organization (WHO) “recognizes gender as a key driver of inequalities in living conditions and, by extension, health. “Gender equality” refers to the entitlement of all genders to enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and treatment. Acknowledging that men and women are not the same, gender equality asserts that all genders have the right to develop and pursue their interests free of discrimination, stereotypes, and biases. Progressing gender equality is recognized as an important political, social, and economic goal in many countries around the world. Moreover, there is evidence that gender equality has an important influence on health, and indeed some claim that gender inequality represents one of the most significant threats to global health” (WHO, 2021).

Reflect on the statement above and answer the following questions.

What differences do we see in health outcomes among people of different genders? What factors influence these differing outcomes? (consider the multiple factors at play such as cultural norms, research [or lack thereof], power [who has it, who doesn’t], and other disparities and inequalities)Of the factors you’ve discussed, which do you feel play larger/smaller roles in the disparities we see? What changes do you believe need to happen in order to close the gaps in the gender health disparities? Discuss what you think is needed in order to successfully implement those changes. Consider gender development in children/adolescents as well as gender identity into adulthood. And finally, discuss what challenges we face in reducing gender health disparities.

Make sure to support your statements with academic sources and appropriately cite those sources. Once you’ve completed your post, respond to at least TWO of your peers. Your responses must be substantive and advance the conversation.
