Discuss some reasons as to why the United States, and some of its people, thought it should or could “take” California from the sovereign country of Mexico. Remember to cite some specific people, events, actions, and policies (mentioned in Chapter 9) that contributed to forming and achieving that goal. What specific realities in Mexican CA (discussed in Chapter 8 and 9) made it difficult for Hispanic Californios to resist this change/takeover?
