Option 1: Women and Abolition- Describe and discuss the role women played in the 19th century Abolition movement in America, including the ways were they particularly influential. What arguments could women make regarding the institution that were different than what men were saying? What was the response to women being outspoken on this issue? Were the women involved in this movement active in other movements as well?
Option 2: Women and Revolution- Explain the ways that women became active political players during the Revolutionary Era. How did they participate in the process? Could the American Revolution have happened without the support of women? Why or why not?
Option 3: Women and Slavery- Describe how the institution of slavery in America affected the women who were enslaved and the women who were the owners of slaves. What dangers existed for enslaved women? How did women slaveholders respond to women living in their households?
Option 4: Women and Work- The early 19th century brought about new opportunities for women workers. What occupations were socially acceptable for women, and who took those jobs? Name at least two, and explain the benefits and drawbacks of each line of work. Were women respected for the work they did? Were these opportunities positive for women?
