How to/visual aid

How To / Visual Aid Speech
Has to be a Process Speech with Steps
Must be 4 6 minutes in length
Must use at least one Visual Aid in the Body of the Presentation : Visual aid must be used to explain a step in the process!
STRUCTURE
Introduction
Attention Getter – Do Not Start Speech with Name, Greetings, or the word “OKAY”! Begin
something that will grab our attention. Tell a story, quote, or humor. We will get
more specific with devices but do something to grab attention.
Audience Analysis This is any where from 2 – 4 sentences that demonstrate how the topic
applies to the audience. I want you to state a SOURCE that says how the topic
is relevant. If you were demonstrating how to make spaghetti, then you would
want to find a source that showed how much spaghetti Americans eat per year
or how much spaghetti is produced in the USA. Linking the topic to the
audience will help motivate them to listen to your speech. This is important!
Preview statement of steps – Be specific with this roadmap. Just like I had you do with the
introductory speech. EX: Today, we will identify the ingredients you need for
spaghetti, then we will uncover how to create it, and finally we will determine
how to serve it.  Break the information of the process into three main areas.
Body of Speech
Must explain the steps of the process one by one
Must open and close at least one visual aid to demonstrate the Process in the body.

Conclusion
Review statement that repeats the steps of the process. This sentence is just like the Preview but
it is in past tense: EX: Today, we have identified the ingredients for spaghetti,
we have uncovered how to create it, and we have determined how it should be
        served.
Audience Analysis Once again, in 2 – 3 sentences, in your own words, explain how the
        subject related to the audience.

Definite Closure provide an ending that draws the speech to a close. Do Not End The Speech
with “The End”, “That’s It”, and “Thank You”. You only say “Thank You” at the
end of a speech if people are paying you to give the speech. Helpful Delivery
Technique: On the last two sentences of speech, slow down the rate of
delivery and lower the pitch of your voice just a little. This will help signal to
your audience you are about to conclude the presentation.
DELIVERY
All speeches given will be using EXTEMPORANEOUS delivery! All student speakers will be allowed to use only 2 3×5 Notecards to give their presentations. REMEMBER, ELEVATE the Recording Device so you give the speech facing straight forward. We dont give speeches looking down into a recording device.
