Mahmood Kalantar was an engineering professor at Rappahannock Community College in Virginia. He was indicted in May of 2011 on one count of felony rape of a woman within a rental property he owned. The allegation made to police is that in April 2011, a woman visited the property that was being shown by Kalantar who offered to rent the property to her. According to the police report, the woman attempted to leave the house and Kalantar grabbed her, threw her on the ground, and repeatedly assaulted her sexually. She ran to her car where Kalantar followed, asked her not to say anything, and gave her $40 and said “that ought to cover it.” When she escaped, she reported the incident to police and consented to a medical examination.

In 2011, Kalantar was acquitted after a jury deliberated for half an hour.
