HVAC system design

Include the following information/deliverables.

Background/summary

HVAC & Duct System:

Layout (line drawings)

Show all duct sizes and cfms use round ductwork

Show diffuser locations and type (use a schedule Titus Brand)

Show terminal units (VAV, FCU, etc.) (use a schedule Trane Brand)

Show primary HVAC units on layout (use schedule Trane Brand)

Hand in one cut sheet per unit type (diffusers, terminal units, boiler, AHU, etc.)

For the schedule(s) of all unit types, include data such as cfm, gpm, Btu/hr heating, Btu/hr cooling, pressure loss, and any other relevant data.

Piping System:

On a separate sheet, show piping layout include gpm and pipe size

Show any equipment the piping is connected to

Load Layout Diagram: For each zone, on a separate sheet, include the following:

Show terminal units and branch ductwork/diffusers

For each zone, list your calculated design heating and cooling loads and fresh air

– you may integrate a schedule with this diagram

Controls:

List how you will control temperatures in the zones

List if/how you will control air and hydronic variations of flow and temperature

Equipment shut off / turn on control and schedule

Energy & Cost Calculations:

List how much energy you expect your HVAC system to use per year.

List how much energy cost you expect your HVAC system to use per year.

List how much energy (MMBtu/yr) you expect your HVAC system to use per year.

List how much energy (MMBtu/sqft) you expect your HVAC system to use per square foot.

Also include:

All calculations, sample calc, info, spreadsheets, assumptions, references

Format:

Grading Ruberic:

Select your systems based on:

10% Comfort and aesthetics

20% Energy use (MMBtu/sqft)

20% Energy cost/yr

10% Accuracy of selection/sizing

40% – Deliverables

Givens:

Average occupancy: 4-8 people; sometimes training sessions will be held with more people (1/mth for 1-2 hours, typically 15-20 people).

1 toilet (water closet) and 1 urinal in the Restroom.

Mechanical Room has domestic water & hot water heater; electrical; and HVAC system.

Desks/cubicles in corner

Electricity ($0.11/kWh)

Natural Gas ($0.70/therm)
