In addition, each student is required to describe their findings in an essay. Within the essay, based on the observations recorded in the notebook each group is asked to discuss functional relationships among species and how these functional relationships fluctuate over time (e.g. seasonal impacts). Any information not derived from the field work must be buttressed using a literature review of the focal species (Bur Oak). The principles gained from the exercise can be applied in writing the Ecosystem Management Plan.

Based on the data you collected in the field, each group must independently describe the observations and species (flora or fauna) identified within your study area i.e. the ground truthing exercise.

Based on the descriptions recorded in the group’s notebook select one species (flora or fauna) identified within your study area and describe the functional relationships between that species and three other species that would reside within your habitat type on the PLMs landscape.

1)Describe how the aforementioned functional relationships fluctuate over time (e.g. seasonal impacts – March to November and the changes within this time period).

2)Describe these functional relations between the different sites (over space) at Parkland Mews Ecosystem.

3)Describe elements of human disturbance in the ecosystem.

Based on the presentation of field data by all groups on Oct 6th. One section of the essay will have to describe the functional relationships between species across the line transect.

Your essay answers should include a literature search to provide you with working knowledge of your four organisms, including an understanding of their requirements pertaining to seasonal change, life stages, disturbance regimes etc. You should consider geography, topography, biodiversity, habitat types, natural disturbance needs, as well as adverse disturbances (potentially human derived) that would impact your species.Your assignment should be anchored in scientific literature. Answers should be approximately 1500-2000 words in length using Times Roman Numeral Font 12 and Double Spaced.
