While doing this step 50 mL of water was measured in a 100 mL beaker and was heated up to 50 °C on a hot plate. Afterwards the hot water was carefully added to the styrofoam calorimeter containing the cold water. Then a lid was quickly placed on top of the styrofoam calorimeter and a stirrer was used to mix the hot and cold water thoroughly. To finish the calibration of the Styrofoam calorimeter the final temperature of the water inside the calorimeter was recorded by using the digital thermometer for three trials and the previous steps were performed in the same way for the Brand calorimeter.
