In “Partial Magic in the Quixote”, Borges writes: “if the characters of a fictional work can be readers or spectators, we, its readers or spectators, can be fictitious.” In “Coleridge’s Dream”, he ponders the close link between dreams and works of fiction. Consider Borges’ ideas from both essays and write about the relation between reality, fiction, and dreams, and our role as readers/characters in those three realms. Is our identity similar to that of a fiction character or that of a person inside a dream? Do we inhabit the world as characters exist in a fiction or as we move inside a dream?
