Last week, you chose a healthcare topic that interests you, conducted research into this topic, and completed an outline to organize your information in a clear and logical manner. This week, you will begin drafting your article, starting with the introduction paragraph. Remember, your introduction paragraph includes three main parts: hook, background information, and thesis statement. All three of these elements must be present to have an effective introduction paragraph.
Assignment Instructions
Open the article template that you used to create your introduction last week. (Hint: If you cannot find the file you saved last week, return to Week 1 Assignment and download it from your submissions(this link opens in a new window/tab) . Need help?)
1. Create an effective thesis statement.
- Your thesis statement should be your topic plus the three main ideas you will focus on in your essay.

2. Draft the introduction paragraph of this article.
- Be sure to include a hook, background information, and your thesis statement in this paragraph.
- Review “Writing a thesis statement(this link opens in a new window/tab) ” and Interactive 1B – Introduction Paragraph for assistance with creating your introduction.
- Review “Writing perspectives(this link opens in a new window/tab) ?” to help determine your writing style

Instructions for Saving and Uploading Completed Assignment
If you are continuing from last week:
- Open your file
- Complete the assignment
- Click “Save”. You do not need to change the name of your document.
- Then upload your assignment by selecting the Upload button.
- Select your saved file. Then, select the Submit button below to submit your assignment to you instructor for grading.
If starting a new file:
- Select Enable Editing at the top of the document.
- Select File, then select Save As from the drop-down menu. Title your document using the following format. Lastname_Firstname_Course#
- Complete the assignment.
- Then upload your assignment by selecting the Upload button.
- Select your saved file. Then, select the Submit button below to submit your assignment to your instructor for grading
