Literary Analysis 1: Outline

ILOs

  • Think, write, and speak about literary texts critically and effectively.
  • Recognize a representative selection of literary works by major writers (including notable stylistic devices and features) representing a diversity of prominent historical and cultural traditions and issues.
  • Understand the biographical, historical, and cultural contexts of a representative selection of works by major writers. 
  • Identify the relationships among the literary works studied and the philosophical/religious and political/social/economic milieus of the cultures and subcultures within and among which they were written.

Instructions

Write a 2-3 page outline (double-spaced) that responds to one of the prompts provided in the assignment guide: Literary Analysis 1. Indicate what prompt you have selected in the title of your outline. Here is an example of a title: The Mediation of A Raisin in the Sun: Response to Prompt 2. The outline should follow the format indicated on the assignment guide. Include your thesis, and indicate which specific examples or moments in the text you will use to explore your papers main idea. NOTE: All topics refer to the play A Raisin in the Sun, not the poem. Be sure to watch the video How to Write About Literature before you plan and submit the outline of your essay. Refer to the rubric (located in the “Assessment” area in the lower-right of this assignment).
