Long-term care may consist of physical rehabilitation, long-term acute, skilled nursing, home health, and hospice care. Long-term care may take place in a variety of settings and may be paid for by private insurance or public insurance (Medicare and/or Medicaid). With a large population of the United States aging, this has placed a strain on the long-term care industry. In this 3-5 page paper, students will research the challenges facing the long-term care industry both today and in the future. These challenges should include, but not be limited to, information on how this care is financed and the challenges of financing this care in the future, quality of care, and the integration of services. Students should include discussion on how the shortage of healthcare professionals has impacted and will continue to impact the long-term care industry.
