This argumentative thesis/claim will serve as the backbone to your essay. You will base all of your topic sentences i.e. mini claims/viewpoints on this thesis statement viewpoint. Based on your topic sentences, you will build and develop your body paragraphs by including the scholarly information that you have analyzed and that you can synthesize into a cohesive paragraph. This scholarly information is refer to as your evidence or supporting details. This evidence is comprised on your interpretation of the scholarly information. You will have to explain this information in a way that relates to your topic sentence. The scholarly information should be facts, expert opinions, reasons, anecdotes or stories, and data. With that said, you have to paraphrase, interpret, and summarize this information rather than use a direct quotation. You will also have to synthesize information from various sources into a cohesive body paragraph.

–Introduction (Include a hook, context i.e. background information, thesis statement as last sentence)
–body paragraphs (topic sentences, relevant evidence such as facts, examples, stories, compelling details)
–conclusion
–Make sure that you include paraphrases, summaries, and quotes as part of your evidence to reinforce your logos. You may also include personal stories as part of ethos and stories of others (pathos) that may relate to your thesis statement or topic.
–Remember to write with a convincing tone. If you are writing an argumentative essay, make sure that you refer to evidence that proves your points (viewpoints).
