Europe in the first half of the long nineteenth century was radically altered by a seemingly
endless series of revolutions both political and economic. These revolutions were often
interrelated, however, even when taking place decades apart and in different areas. To what
extent, then, were the Revolutions of 1848 connected to the French Revolution of 1789? Were
the events and ideas that rocked Europe some 60 years after the storming of the Bastille more or
less a continuation of the first major revolution, or had the concepts and goals shifted? Also,
were the end results more of the same, or had social and political landscape of Europe changed?
