1. I am focusing on several key areas to prepare for my upcoming quantitative methodology class. First, I am brushing up on my basic math and statistics skills, ensuring I am comfortable with concepts like mean, median, mode, and standard deviation. I am also learning statistical software like SPSS, utilizing online tutorials for a hands-on approach. Understanding different research designs and sampling techniques is crucial, so I am researching experimental and observational studies. I have started reading research articles using quantitative methods to understand real-world applications.
I am practicing critical thinking and data interpretation, essential for evaluating research methodologies. Joining study groups and online forums is also part of my preparation strategy, as peer learning and diverse perspectives are invaluable. I am ready for a rigorous workload and have planned a strict coursework and regular practice schedule.
What excites me most about this class is the problem-solving aspect, using data to tackle complex problems. The real-world applications of this knowledge, like predicting market trends or understanding social phenomena, are particularly intriguing. I am also looking forward to learning about data visualization and the interdisciplinary nature of quantitative methods. These classes are an academic exercise and a stepping stone for career advancement in a data-driven world.
2. What excites me the most regarding moving into these courses is that I can focus only on the qualitative methodology, my descriptive case study design, and the rest of the research components. It was a bit overwhelming trying to understand both qualitative and quantitative methodology. Although, I have learned the difference between the two, I believe focusing on just one, qualitative, will keep my stress levels down.
What I need to do to prepare for going into these courses is to keep reading more literature on my topic to help me develop better research questions. Also, to help me to continue to develop writing my dissertation. I am also looking forward to working on the questionnaires, surveys, and interview questions. I’m also looking forward to processing the data.
The questions I have about what to expect are:
- What to expect during my residency? My residency is February 25 – March 1, 2024. I have taken the Zoom course on what to expect, but I am so excited and anxious, I can’t wait to see in-person, if it is what I am imagining/expecting.
- Will I have enough of my dissertation completed?
- Will I have enough cited material?
- Will I still be all over the place after my residency?
This class has been great! Thank you all!
Thank you, Dr. Polk!
Happy Holidays everyone! God Bless!!!!
