1.In order to grasp what is going on in the world now, you must be aware of the history that has shaped society and the culture that surrounds you. Many people feel trapped because they fail to see the bigger picture, never looking outside of their own private lives. Many people become so consumed by what they believe to be their own personal troubles when in reality they are often impacted by much larger social issues. In order to make an impact and push for change, you must first be aware of the social issues around you as well as how they’ve evolved through history.

2. The term Issues refers to the social problems a culture or community faces as a whole such as a large factory shutting down due to safety violations and causing hundreds or even thousands of people to lose their jobs. The term trouble is used to describe problems on a more personal level such as someone who is unemployed because they lost their job and lack the motivation to find a new one. While these terms are, different social issues can often play a part in personal troubles

3 These questions are important because they  make us think about the issues we face in today’s society as well as the personal troubles that they create. It helps us see how the events of the past have shaped our society today and what led us to where we are now. This can help us understand why the changes we see going on right now are occurring The sociological imagination enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of its meaning for the inner life and the external career of a variety of individuals.(Mills, 1959)This is why paying close attention to our history and the patterns we see throughout, it can help us understand how our actions now will affect our future. Oppression and gender roles have evolved greatly over time yet when we look at our society today it is still a major problem but when we look at how change has been made in the past can help understand what’s needed to make a change in the future. That, in brief, is why it is by means of the sociological imagination that men and women now hope to grasp what is going on in the world, and to understand what is happening in themselves as minute points of the intersections of biography and history within society.(Mills, 1959)

4. Social imagination is the ability to understand how our own personal experiences are shaped and influenced by the society that surrounds us. Many of our troubles are a result of much bigger social issues. To a sociologist, the personal decisions an individual makes do not exist in a vacuum.(Conerly, Holmes, & Tamang) In order to understand society today, we must be aware of what it has evolved from and the history behind how we’ve gotten to this point. If you want to understand what’s going on in the society around you then you must be able to remove yourself and your feelings from the situation and look at it from an unbiased point of view based on facts.
