This class has allotted me the opportunity to gain better insight to the responsibilities of a community health worker (CHW). I grew up in a community that had limited resources in the area, however due to it being a bigger city there was much to keep us occupied. There were many activities or community centers that would provide buses to the community. Currently, I live in a city that does not have those opportunities for the community. I have been interested in how I can assist those around me in providing opportunities to improve health and organizational programs. This class has allowed me to recognize how to assess the political climate in the area. It has also opened the concept of building a team for the community such as health care workers, government, and community support. Interviewing a community health worker was the most enjoyable assignment for me. It gave me great insight to someone currently working in the field and their view of how to address the community. I have no additional topics that can be covered at this time. I would like to suggest the assignment to interview could be a week 3 or later assignment, especially with the pandemic. It was difficult to get my local public health department to answer or respond to the request for an interview, even when I asked in person. I was lucky to know others in the public health field to have coworkers work with me. It would give others time to find someone to interview.
