Now that we know projects fail due to lack of attention and efforts being applied to the project, check out Troi, a new project manager’s, day. As the project manager for large organization Troi’s day is very busy and seems overwhelming. Troi arrives at the office early to get caught up with work before anyone else arrives. However, as she enters the office she meets Neil, one of the fellow project managers, who also wants to get an early start on the day. Neil has just completed a project overseas. They spend 20 minutes socializing and catching up on personal news before Troi asks Neil for help beginning a new project. Troi gets to their desk and opens their laptop. They were at a client’s site the day before until 7:30 p.m. and has not checked e-mail or voice mail since 4:30 p.m. the previous day. Troi has 2 voicemails, 16 e-mails, and 10 posts on the team Slack channel.

After reading about the first hour of Troi’s day, research the internet or library journals for project success factors. Also, check out pmi.org for great articles. Locate at least two resources, which you should use to respond to the questions presented below. Cite your source(s) in APA format.

  • What 2-3 factors do your article(s) mention as key elements for project success? Elaborate why.
  • Why is an understanding of the life cycle relevant to our understanding of project success and failure?
  • If you were in Troi’s position, what would you do to ensure your project’s success?

In your responses to your classmates, address the following:

  • Compare your findings with theirs and ask questions in relation to their or your research.
