ANAS SCOPE AND STANDARDS OF NURSING PRACTICE

After reading Chapter 1 of the American Nurses Associations Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, check out the below post!

Why do we need a scope of nursing practice?

ANAs Scope of Nursing Practice describes the who, what, where, when, why, and how of nursing practice. By answering each of these questions, nurses can provide a complete picture of the dynamic and complex practice of nursing. Continue reading in Chapter 1 to understand each of these 5 elements.

Why do we need standards of practice?

ANAs Standards of Practice describe a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process (American Nurses Association, 2015), which you should recognize from our discussion yesterday!

Beyond the nursing process, the ANA identifies standards of professional performance which describe a competent level of behavior in the professional role. These standards are as follows:

Ethics
Culturally Congruent Practice
Communication
Collaboration
Leadership
Education
Evidence-based Practice and Research
Quality of Practice
Professional Practice Evaluation
Resource Utilization
Environmental Health (American Nurses Association, 2015)
Select two of the standards of professional performance. Post the definition provided by ANA and then post what each standard means to you, in your own words.
