Americans need to take vitamins because taking vitamins has an evolving role in the body and can be personalized depending on what an individual needs. Vitamins are essential in my opinion because they can help with growth, development, nerve function, blood clotting, or immune function (Blumberg, J. B., et al, 2018). Vitamins are considered to be essential nutrients because they act to all perform different roles in the human body. They can help to heal wounds, bolster the immune system and make bones stronger. Most of us living will not eat a balanced diet as much as we should because of this it is important to take a specific vitamins pill or a multivitamin. People can be at risk for many diseases if they do not have enough essential vitamins. For example, people who end up developing osteoporosis which is most likely common in older adults are more likely to benefit from a regular vitamin D supplement (Blumberg, J. B., et al, 2018). In addition to this, there is a general safety that can allow there to be a proper dose given to humans that do need these vitamins. Some people may need vitamins because of their restrictive diets like vegans or some people can have Crohns disease, celiac disease, or chronic diarrhea (Kamangar, F., & Emadi, A. 2012). All of these issues call for vitamin D and is a great understanding as to why multivitamins are essential.
