Part 2.1.6 Conceptualizing & Operationalizing Love

Hide Assignment Information Instructions Conceptualizing and Operationalizing Love

Directions: For this week's discussion. Let's finish what we started at the very beginning of the lecture. We defined romantic love as a strong emotional attachment to a romantic partner. This was our conceptualization of romantic love.

Now let’s decide how we will measure that – let’s operationalize romantic love? Let’s say we are doing a survey on romantic love. What questions could we ask someone to figure out if he/she was in romantic love with another? What kinds of behaviors does someone exhibit if he/she is in romantic love?

For this homework list 15 indicators (behaviors) that someone might exhibit if he/she is in romantic love. Keep in mind that we are creating INDICATORS of our concept romantic love. Keep in mind indicators, in and of themselves, do not directly indicate romantic love. Rather, taken together as a whole, they should begin to indicate romantic love.

For example, ll do the first one:1. A person in romantic love will like to take long walks on the beach with his/her significant other. 2. A person in romantic love will … okay, you fill in the rest. Have fun with this one!!!
