Philosophy

1. TITLE:  Your paper should have a title page including the title of the paper, your name, the name of the course, the date, the school

Your title must include the names of the three religions you are using for the purpose of comparing a theme in three religions.  The three religions should include at least one indigenous religion, one Eastern religion, and one Western religion.

Example:  Coming of Age Rituals in Hinduism, Judaism, and the Navajo Religion”

2. CONTENT:

Your paper should give a summary and brief history of the topic you are addressing in each of the religions and describe similarities and differences among the three groups, giving some evaluation and account of the reasons for and/or consequences of the three different religions approach to your theme and their differences.

3. FORMAT:

Label your doc file or pages file (NO PDF’s) with your LastnamePHL243Fall’21-TermPaper
Double-space the text of your paper, and use a legible font (e.g. Times New Roman). Whatever font you choose, MLA recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are recognizable one from another. The font size should be 12 pt.

Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise instructed by your instructor).

Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.

Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin. MLA recommends that you use the Tab key as opposed to pushing the Space Bar five times.

Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin.

Quotations longer than three lines should be single spaced and indented.

4. CITING SOURCES:

Acknowledge sources of material that have been paraphrased or copied verbatim immediately following the material used.  (Author, p.xx).  If the source is a website, please use the URL address as a page NOT a general site but the exact site of the information used.

Verbatim copying should be used for scripture, dialogue, poetry, and law not for key ideas for your essay.  These should be paraphrased.  Violating this instruction results in plagiarism and will result in loss of all credit for the paper.

5. STRUCTURE YOUR PAPER:

Begin your paper with an Introduction that announces the theme and religions you will address and what aspects of similarity or difference you will stress.  An additional abstract is not necessary for a paper of this length.
Conclude your paper with a  brief summary of what you have established.
Paper should be 5-7 pages long

6.  BIBLIOGRAPHY/WORKS CITED

Use at least four  academic references on your topic.  News articles or other web information may be included but academic work must also be used.

The bibliography or works cited page should be a separate and final page. Google “how to cite electronic resources” if you don’t know the form.
