POETRY ASSGINMENT:
I have posted the teachers requirements.
I have allotted students a significant portion of this weeks time to focus on creating a piece of poetry. For this lesson and assignment, it will help if you already have your topic in mind. I recommend using the topic for your Essay 1 or Essay 3 so that you might be able to revise and use this work as the beginning of your semester remix project. No matter, pick a topic now and let it sit in the back of your mind while we look at some poets whose work carries a persuasive message. For this assignment, students will be working with free form poetry. There is no rhyme requirement, no meter requirement, add those or don’t. There are no rules to your poem. Watch the video examples provide in the list of links below. After watching the videos, sit down with something to write. What poem can you create? This is an all or nothing assignment. If you attempt more than 10 lines, you will receive full credit. I’m not grading for quality for this assignment. Be creative. Your words matter. As you explore the following links, remember, we are not evaluating the poems’ messages, but rather the message’s form : READ: Transcript of Amanda Gorman’s inaugural poem | TheHillJoy Harjo’s For Calling the Spirit Back From Wandering the Earth in Its Human Feet 13 poems by Joy Harjo – siwarmayuIF by Rudyard Kipling (A Life Changing Poem) – YouTubeTo The Love of My Life│Spoken Word Poetry – YouTubethe voicemail. || Spoken Word Poetry – YouTubeR.J.
