The critical assignment is the capstone assignment for this course and is designed to assess your overall understanding of the material presented throughout the course. Success with the critical assignment will signify your mastery of the course learning goals: to explore and articulate the basic types of family violence (goal #1), to analyze the various historical and cultural factors related to family violence (goal #2), and to examine your own experience and faith beliefs through the lens of family violence (goal #3). Success with the critical assignment will require your use of all the reading materials required through the course as well as the supplemental videos and instructor’s comments. This assignment must be passed with at least 70% in order to pass the course. Please note this assignment must be submitted through TaskStream, and the instructions for this process are provided below.
Please create a 17-slide Power Point presentation addressing an overview of family violence within the human services context. There should be 15 slides of text, plus a title slide and a reference slide. Each slide should contain 5-7 bullet points of content (complete sentences are not necessary, but the bullet points should each contain enough text to sufficiently communicate your thoughts). Each slide should contain examples and also visual graphics to enhance the presentation. Please follow the guidelines below to structure your presentation:
Slides 1-2: introduction. These slides should discuss a brief overview of family violence and what this presentation aims to accomplish. You should identify an audience for this presentation provide rationale about the importance of this topic.
Slides 3-7: family violence. These slides should discuss the various types of violence that can occur within families, including the various types of child abuse, elder abuse, and domestic violence. Provide examples and citations.
Slides 8-10: law and ethics. These slides should discuss the various ethical responsibilities human service professionals must maintain regarding violence and abuse. Provide explanation about why it is crucial for human service professionals to be properly trained and always follow the proper legal and ethical guidelines. Provide examples and citations..
Slides 11-13: historical context and current issues. These slides should discuss the history of violence in families, including discussion about the influence of religion and race. These slides should also provide information about current violence issues in American society, including violence among college students, dating relationships, toward the LGBT community, and toward men. Provide examples and citations.
Slides 14-15: faith integration and conclusion. These slides should discuss the connection between the Christian message and serving as a human services professional for clients who have experienced violence or abuse. What does Scripture have to say about these issues? Provide examples and discuss your concluding thoughts about your role as a human service professional.
Your presentation should be in proper APA format (if you are unsure of APA formatting, please reference the materials provided in the Week 0 learning activity). Your presentation should include at least 5 peer-reviewed references, which should be cited throughout the slides. You are welcome to use the Hines, et al (2013) text and any published journal articles. Websites are not considered valid references in academic work.
