3 DQ 2
The Doctor of Nurses (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) are the highest attainable degrees for nurses to reach (AACN, 2019). Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing, commonly known as a PhD in Nursing, is a research-focused doctorate in which students conduct research to advance the science and practice of nursing (Rosseter, 2020). A person holding a PhD could seek employment as a university professor, researcher, or scientist in many fields (Rosseter, 2020). The DNP degree was created to prepare APRNs (i.e., clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners [NPs], nurse midwives, and nurse anesthetists) for leadership in clinical practice (McCauley, 2020) . The DNP is the highest level of education for the nursing field. As a doctor of nursing practice, improving the quality of patient care and enhance the training of nursing professionals is important (McCauley, 2020). Youll also be able to translate research findings into clinical settings, implement healthcare information technology across healthcare settings, and much more (McCauley, 2020). There is a dual degree the PhD-DNP that is not very popular now. National nursing leaders are in the process of developing metrics and collecting data that will support funding for the dual degrees (Loescher et al., 2021). Another interesting fact is that once you earn your DNP, you can have a shorter path toward earning your PhD in Nursing, should you choose to do so (AACN, 2019).
The DNP is the tract I would choose, I enjoy reading article research to obtain a wider knowledge base, but actual research work does not interest me. I am going to able to seek positions that interest me with a BSN. Later, after the transitions are completed and the scope of practice has been decided on for the Advance degrees, I may pursue a higher level of education.
