Please use the guidelines below for preparing your final paper for Comparative Health Systems:
Writing a comparative analysis paper is different from other academic papers which may be simply researching on a single topic. For this course, your comparative paper should be using 2 countries from 2 different regions within the textbook. These may be the same two countries used in your midterm analysis. Or you may change to different country/ies, as long as they are from two different regions in the text.
Word count on your midterm outline was expected to be 400-500 words. And if you choose to keep the same two countries for your final paper, you can expand on your outline to 1500-2000 words (not including title page and reference page). There is some flexibility for turning in the assignment anytime between now and the final due date of April 5, at 11:59pm. More writing detail are below.
Your final comparison paper should use BOTH the midterm categories and the 2 additional comparison and discussion sections for the final – see below for ALL the sections:
Categories from the midterm:
- Country Name
- Type of healthcare system(s) public, private, combination, something else
- Government role
- Other major stakeholders or leadership, including NGO, IGOs, etc.
- Financial structure (who is paying)
- Population covered (who has healthcare, or not)
- Technology status
- Cost effectiveness (% GDP or cost/patient)
- Coverage options for low-income patients
- Key issue(s) of concern for each country
- Progress or barriers to addressing concerns
- Sustainability and future expectations for each country
- Other categories of importance (optional)
Additional expectations for the final:
- Compare similarities and/or contrasts (this will vary depending on which countries you chose)
- Discuss the overall potential future outlook for healthcare in the country/ies and, if applicable, your suggested solutions. (Expanding on sustainability and future expectations from the midterm.)
WRITING FORMAT OPTIONS
for your final paper can be either of the following options, but please be consistent throughout.
OPTION 1:
Separate countries entirely at first, then combine countries in the comparison and discussion sections
Country 1
- Type of healthcare system(s) public, private, combination, something else
- Government role
- Other major stakeholders or leadership, including NGO, IGOs, etc.
- Continue with different categories as they apply to Country 1
Country 2
- Type of healthcare system(s) public, private, combination, something else
- Government role
- Other major stakeholders or leadership, including NGO, IGOs, etc.
- Continue with different categories as they apply to Country 2
Combine countries for the following analysis:
- Compare similarities and/or contrasts (this will vary depending on which countries you chose)
- Discuss the overall potential future outlook for healthcare in the country/ies and, if applicable, your suggested solutions. (Expanding on sustainability and future expectations from the midterm.)
