Comparison of Schoolwide Discipline Plans Assignment School Plan Choices
For this assignment, you will compare one schools schoolwide discipline plan to the SW-PBIS framework.
To begin, select one schools schoolwide discipline plan to use for this assignment. You have two options for selecting a schools plan to use for this comparison.
You can select:
a. Your own school’s schoolwide discipline plan. Note that this plan should be specific to your school, and avoid using any school division/district plan. If you arent sure of your schools plan, contact an administrator or leader in your school to see if they can help you locate the document that outlines your schools discipline plan.
b. If your school does not have a plan, this document contains a list of school plans that you can choose from.
Regardless of which school plan is used, please use a pseudonym for the school and school systems name. For example, refer to School ABC or a fictitious name.
Assignment Tips :
As you review the school plan, ask yourself questions about SW-PBIS compared to that schools plan. For example:
o Is what you see on that site sufficiently explanatory for parents?
o You are seeing all thats provided on the schools site, sometimes in the Parent category (you
know that when the link has parent in the link title). SW-PBIS is for all school personnel, too. Questions to consider: How is the information conveyed to students? Teachers? Other school staff?
o Do not presume if youre viewing a SW-PBIS school plan that the school already must have done all youve read and viewed on SW-PBIS. What is missing from what you have? What is
clearly there?
Some school or county plans may be lengthier if their focus is all aspects of the school or county versus just the rules and guidelines for students behaviors. Consequently, when you view the Table of Contents for these lengthier documents, hone in on the topics related to how behaviors are reinforced and enforced at schools, what the guidelines are for acceptable behaviors, etc. Some sections of these documents you might automatically skip are those having to do with attendance, grades, state testing, enrollment/withdrawal procedures, transportation, etc.
